Most UK companies are not required to file a Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive report. But that does not mean CSRD has nothing to do with them. The real pressure arrives not through a regulatory filing deadline, but through an email from a customer in France, Germany, or the Netherlands asking for your emissions data — and asking for it in a specific format, by a specific date, with evidence attached.

The EU Sustainability Omnibus, published 26 February 2026, significantly narrowed CSRD's direct scope for non-EU groups. The threshold for a third-country parent to fall within mandatory CSRD reporting now requires both EU net turnover above €450 million and an EU subsidiary or branch exceeding €200 million — both conditions must be satisfied simultaneously.1 For the vast majority of UK businesses, that threshold is academic. The indirect obligation, however, is already live: the EU companies that do report need supply chain emissions data from their UK suppliers to complete their ESRS E1 and E2 disclosures, and those requests are arriving now.
